What the research actually shows#
Average weight loss in liraglutide trials was meaningfully lower than semaglutide or tirzepatide achieved in theirs, which is why it moved to the background clinically. Its comeback story is economic, not clinical: generics arrived.

Side effects, stated plainly#
Gastrointestinal effects dominate, as with the class, and the daily injection schedule is its own adherence consideration. Class boxed warning applies.
What it costs#
This is the one GLP-1 where discount cards genuinely shine: generic liraglutide has been priced as low as roughly $372 a month with a coupon against retail of $1,300 or more — a real coupon discount, unlike the brand GLP-1 quotes that merely echo manufacturer programs.
Coupon or manufacturer program?#
A US generic exists, which is exactly the situation discount cards are good at. Prices move daily by pharmacy and postcode, and the spread between the cheapest and dearest pharmacy in one town is routinely several times the drug's actual cost. Flat-rate cash pharmacies are the other half of this comparison and frequently win outright.
Watch for the same coupon quoting different prices at two pharmacies a mile apart — that is normal, and it is why checking twice pays.
