Jenna Fischer may be one of the stars on the hilarious TV series The Office and on the November cover of Shape magazine, but two years ago she wasn’t laughing. After taking a nasty fall in a New York City restaurant (breaking her back in four places), Jenna become depressive and found solace into cheeseburgers and doughnuts.

“Before the accident, I wore size 26 jeans! I was truly in the best shape of my life,” Jenna told Shape magazine. “Afterward, I gained 10 pounds and got flabby.”

Luckily she recovered, started hiking with her friends and cut back on those burgers and pastries. Losing the first few pounds was a motivator and the 35-year-old actress started taking her workouts more seriously.

Weight-loss or no weight-loss, Jenna’s always been able to laugh at herself and at her imperfections. And she encourages every woman to do the same.

“I’ve heard gorgeous actresses say, ‘My ears are too pointy’ or ‘My feet are horrible.’ But rather than complain about it, we should be laughing at our imperfections to make ourselves feel better,” she says. “I’ll squeeze the jiggle on my thigh for you just to show you I’m not perfect!”

But judging from that Shape cover, it’s hard to believe…

Reality star sweethearts Ryan and Trista Sutter have two children. Max was born in 2007 but when their daughter Blakesley arrived in April Trista found herself with 43 pounds left to lose. In the past six months she has whipped herself into shape and the petite 5′2″ mom now weighs 107 pounds. This week, Trista gave five diet tips to the readers of People Magazine, in particular, tips for moms who have had multiple pregnancies.

1. Push the stroller. Trista started out with 45 minutes a day. She said,

“My double-stroller plus the two kids is about 70 pounds, so pushing that uphill is pretty hard.”

2. Turn the house into a gym. Trista and her trainer found household objects such as paint canes, crates and ski poles that she would use as weights. While the kids were napping she could get a workout in without having to go to a gym.
3. Keep track of calories. Trista uses mycalorienumber.com
4. Eat your protein. Lower your carb intake and crank up the protein. For example, you can still indulge in a cheeseburger but don’t eat the bun.
5. Remember that supplements are just supplements. The reality star admits to using them but doesn’t see them as the answer. She said,

“I’ve always believed there is no quick fix. A lot of people ask about it and say, ‘Oh, I’ve been taking them for a month and it hasn’t been doing anything,’ and I say, ‘Have you been working out?’ Because it has to be used in conjunction with working out if you are expending energy.”

The news is out: Katie Holmes is whipping husband Tom Cruise into shape.  Good for her!  It seems the tabloids always point out how Tom bosses Katie around but this time it’s Katie doing the talking.  As Tom is now in his late 40s it’s hard to keep the weight off so Katie offered her help by putting him on a strict diet and exercise plan which includes lowering his carbohydrate intake, cutting out sweet snacks and getting plenty of exercise in the form of running and sex.

One source told OK! Magazine that Katie likes to bake tasty treats like cookies and brownies and since that is Tom’s weakness he’s asked her to not make them. Instead, Katie is piling his plate with lean protein and veggies. The source claims,

“She also has him eating fewer carbs and more lean protein. So instead of filling his plate with lots of pasta and red meat, she’s ordered him to load up on autumn vegetables like squash and sweet potatoes, as well as chicken and fish.”

Katie has always been an avid runner and she has even run in a marathon so she has now encouraged Tom to run two miles a day. The source said that Tom is now running four times a week.  Last but definitely not least, the couple has increased their sexual romps because Katie read that having sex three to four times a week can burn 600 calories.

“Tom thinks the sex order is the best part of Katie’s diet plan, and he’s promised to up the bedroom romps whenever they are in the same town… just for the sake of his diet!” dishes the insider.

Sheryl Crow: Diet & Exercise After Cancer

After being diagnosed with cancer in 2006, country rock singer Sheryl Crow is now out of the danger zone and cancer free. Recently, the 47-year-old single-mom shared her post-cancer diet and exercise tips with Health magazine.

Three years after visiting a disease prevention and well-being nutritionist (when she was first diagnosed with the life threatening disease), Sheryl still incorporates those healthy-eating habits in her daily diet.

“I eat salmon or other fish at least three times a week,” she told Health. “I eat a lot of walnuts, almonds, colorful vegetables, and prunes, which get such a bad rap but are loaded with antioxidants.”

Aside from adding enough Omega 3s to her diet, the Grammy Award winner also keeps a “vat” of tomato soup or some sort of tomato sauce around the house because it contains lycopene, and she also drinks a lot of pomegranate juice. Sheryl says she eats Fiber One to get rid of “wastes.”

The Missouri native loves the outdoors and always finds time to fit in some kind of outdoor activity, whether it’s riding her bike or playing tennis and paddle surfing.

“I don’t love going to the gym, but I’ll do it if it’s rainy.”

The one food at the the top of the “anti-cancer” food chain would have to be cruciferous veggies. These are things like broccoli, cabbage, bok choy, arugula, and watercress. That peppery taste you find in these foods are the anti-cancer sulfur compounds at work. Btw, tomatoes contain lycopene which has been associated with reduced risks of prostate cancer.

As far as getting rid of “wastes” you’re better off with unprocessed fruits and veggies than with some packaged product like Fiber One.

Sherri Shepherd has been one busy lady this past year and it’s no wonder she’s been able to keep off all of that weight that she lost. Apart from dropping 40 pounds she is co-host of The View, had a role in the upcoming movie Precious and she even has a new self-titled sitcom which airs this week on Lifetime. On top of all of this she recently told OK! Magazine that she still works out with her trainer three times a week at 5:30am. Happy with her results she is determined to keep the weight off. She explained,

“Girl, I do a lot of squats because I’ve got a booty,” she says. “I’m getting this booty, I love it. I do a lot of squats, treadmill, and a lot of stairs.”

As for her diet she has learned to snack on healthy foods and instead of reaching for the M&Ms like she used to she goes for the veggies. She said,

“I love sautéed broccoli and sautéed spinach, and a lot of mushrooms.”

Shepherd’s weight loss is admirable and it’s great to see someone work so hard and reap the benefits. Both professionally and physically she is unstoppable!

She has already received a lot of press about the show and people are saying that it’s spectacular. Once a worldwide sex symbol, these days Fisher is just glad to have her life back together again after years of battling bipolar disorder and various addictions. Wishful Drinking is the story of Fisher’s Hollywood life; a life that was always in the spotlight considering her parents were singer Eddie Fisher and actress Debbie Reynolds and she was a child actor.

Now at 52-years of age Fisher has a great show on Broadway and seems to be comfortable with middle age and the tumultuous years are behind her. However, the actress did make reference to her body in regard to how she feels on stage. She said,

“I invite people to my show not to look at my house [body] but to listen to my furniture [performance], because I’m a little on the mansion [heavy] side right now and struggling with it.”

Fisher went on to mention that it’s a minor issue she’s dealing with and she is trying to keep her self consciousness under control.  Hopefully the success of Wishful Drinking will get her on the road to healthy weight loss.

Candy Will Make You Violent

A shocking (and almost unbelievable) new study has found a link between eating candy everyday as a kid and adult violence. The research followed more than 17 000 people since 1970 and found that of all the participants, 69% of those who were given candy whenever they asked for it had been violent.

One reasoning for the findings is that when kids are given candy every day, parents are basically giving in to their children’s demands. And when a child’s every demand is met, they don’t learn how to wait to get something they want, pushing them to impulsive and sometimes even criminal behavior.

Another reasoning is that if a child is already “difficult”, they are given sweets as a bride to get them to behave.

“We think that rewarding bad behavior in childhood with confectionary can lead to later problems, but we need to look at this more closely,” Dr Simon Moore, who led the Cardiff University study, told the BBC.

But the study has already been ridiculed.

“Anti-social behavior stems from deep-rooted social and environmental factors, such as poor parenting and a deprived upbringing, and is not linked to whether or not you ate sweeties as a kid,” says Julian Hunt, director of communications for the Food and Drink Federation. “How anyone could leap to such a conclusion is beyond me.”

The two stars from the Fox drama Dollhouse, Dichen Lachman and Eliza Dushku, have shared some diet and exercise information with the readers of Self Magazine in the October issue.  They gave some great exercise tips for doing a partner workout and they also shared some of their own tips.

Dichen addressed the issue of working long hours and fatigue.  She believes that when a person is fit and maintains a healthy lifestyle he/she will be able to support his/her general health even during those times of having to work harder than usual.

As for Dichen’s workout she mentioned that she likes the partner workout because it acts as a substitute for gym equipment and having a partner keeps her motivated.  In addition, she gave examples of a few things she does to burn extra calories during the day.  She explained,

“There are some simple things I do that just keep me moving: walking up stairs instead of taking the lift, parking further away than usual from your destination and cleaning my own apartment.”

Most known for her role in Lipstick Jungle, Lindsay Price is now on the new ABC drama, Eastwick.  She’s on the cover of Fitness Magazine for the month of October and she proves to be one tough cookie when it comes to her rigorous workouts.  She goes to the gym four times a week, plus she likes to run, hike surf and bike.  She said,

“I’m not the kind of girl who picks up a couple of dumbbells and lightly jogs.  I push myself constantly and I have the sweat stain to prove it!”

Price admits to waking up at 4:30am in order to get to the gym and do her workout.  Her favorite routine is the Tread & Tone class at Pulse Fitness Studios.  She explained that she’ll do 30 minutes on the treadmill where her trainer will raise and lower the incline and speed to get an optimal fat burning workout.  Then she will do 30 minutes of circuit training alternating back and arms one day with abs on the other day.  Some of the exercises she’ll do with her trainer which are higlighted in Fitness Magzine include:

To conclude, Lindsay said that her ultimate fitness goal is to someday run a marathon.  Three years ago while she was in training for a marathon she suffered an injury and had to pull from the race, but she still looks to meet her goal in the future.

“I am fine – happy and healthy.  It’s irresponsible when people obsess about my shape and size.”

She also said that she realizes she is a role model for young women and girls and that she doesn’t like how the tabloids claim she doesn’t eat or that she is unhealthy because those girls see it as truth.

Lastly, the 35-year-old claimed to have a healthy diet, healthy lifestyle and loads of energy in order to take care of her three energetic kids and at the same time travel around the world and manage her fashion business.
