Weight: Give Us Something To Shoot For

Virginia Bola asked:

We have all seen the new Dove commercials that feature “real” women rather than the impossibly “ideal” models that are usually selected. While the Dove girls are universally attractive and fit, they also reflect different sizes and shapes, designed to represent the average American woman. Is that what we want?

Glorifying our diversity seems, at first glance, a positive development which should lead to increased self-content and improved self-esteem. Comparing ourselves to the imperfect bodies displayed is supposed to lessen our self-criticism and sense of inadequacy.

Does it?

We are a race of strivers, constantly seeking to better ourselves. Self-improvement is the biggest marketing niche of the Twenty-first Century, from books and classes to online information products, magazines, and television. The gurus of our day, from Oprah, to Martha Stewart, to Dr. Phil, to Donald Trump, all entice us towards improving ourselves, our looks, our relationships, our finances, our surroundings — our whole life. We are dissatisfied with ourselves as we are because we have caught a glimpse of what we can become.

To keep us motivated in that direction, we need a vision of perfection to work towards, even if we know we’ll never quite get there.

When it comes to weight control, what will keep us riveted on our goal? To look as gorgeous as the cover models on Cosmopolitan or the chunky figures in the Dove Ads? Would a book on diet or health sell if the pictures show fat, flabby participants? Would a gasp of delight and a round of applause greet the appearance of a size 18 model waddling down the runway?

We welcome the lanky, completely fat-free models because, in our mind’s eye, they look as we want to look in every dress or suit we put on. We admire the lines and the cut of designer clothing, not the bulges and rolls that dominate so much of our lives. We see ourselves in our hearts, not in our mirrors.

We don’t want to be patronized by the marketing mavens. We don’t want a subtle reminder that we need to set our sights lower or aspire to something less than excellence. We want a dream that soars, that inspires us to unbelievable heights. We want a vision to move towards, no matter how unlikely it is that we will reach that destination.

So keep your condescending “Go ahead and settle for this” approach away, please.

Robert Browning suggested: “Ah, but a man’s reach should exceed his grasp, or what’s a heaven for?”

Weight Loss Plans: Get the Skinny!

Cornell Dayne asked:

If you’ve tried to lose weight, then there is no doubt in my mind that you’ve researched numerous weight loss plans hoping to find one that’s right for you. And you know what? Good research is a necessary step in attaining your ideal weight. I applaud your proactive attitude. It shows that you are serious about this. And besides, it’s tough to know which foods are best for keeping the weight off, or the correct portion sizes allowed for dinner.

Oddly enough, it won’t take long for you to realize that there are more diets out there than there are pounds to lose! For the most part, the only information you’re going to find on these diets comes from people who are either promoting them, or who’ve succeeded with them. Unfortunately, you’re not going to find a lot of objectivity out there.

So, with that in mind, let’s get the “the skinny” on weight loss - the real information you need about the top weight loss plans that everyone is yapping about.

Dr. Phil’s Ultimate Weight Loss Solution

Dr. Phil, the wildly popular medical psychologist with his own television show, has come up with a weight loss plan that focuses more on the psychology of eating and dieting rather than on the kinds of food you should eat. The seven elements of his plan are: (1) Stop the cycle of negative thinking, (2) take control of your emotions, (3) create a “no-fail” environment in your home, (4) learn how to eat only to satisfy hunger (as opposed to “emotional eating”), (5) choose foods high in nutrients and fiber, (6) integrate an exercise regimen into your daily routine, and (7) seek emotional support for your weight loss journey.

Nutrisystem

Nutrisystem is a good diet if you have a specific, short-term weight loss goal, and you don’t want to have to think about what or how much to eat. Basically, they mail you what they call a “meal plan cycle,” three meals and two snacks per day for 28 days. Simply eat what they give you and nothing else!

The difference between the South Beach Diet Plan and the Atkins Diet

Both of these diets feature a first phase that includes cutting out carbohydrates - although in the Atkins Diet, it’s ALL carbs. The additional phases for both allow for the gradual increase in carbs. However, they differ in that the South Beach Diet Plan differentiates between good carbs and bad carbs, while the Atkins Diet lumps all carbs into one category - and that includes high-carb fruits and vegetables. Also, there is some controversy over whether or not Atkins is safe in the long term, because of the high amounts of fat that must be consumed.

Weight Watchers

They’ve been around for a long time, for a reason - their plans help people lose weight. They offer two plans now, and they’re available online for an added sense of community that many dieters like to have while on a weight loss plan. You can choose the Flex Plan, which works on a points system, giving each food a number and allowing you to choose your menu; or the Core Plan, which gives you a list of “approved” foods.

Ultimate Weight Loss Solution Tips - From Soda Sluicing To Vegetable Juicing

Posted on 05. Apr, 2009 by admin.

Rika Susan asked:

In ‘The Ultimate Weight Loss Solution’ Dr. Phil McGraw employs his common-sense, straight-shooting approach to combat the raging weight and obesity wars. Embrace eliminating emotional eating, while incorporating moderate enjoyment of a variety of great-tasting, healthy foods and some fun, fat-burning activity, and you have discovered the ultimate weight loss solution tips that virtually guarantee slimming success. This is especially true if you manage to stop your rampant sugar addiction in its tracks.

Imagine this: By just cutting out a 12 ounce sweetened soda fountain serving per day, 15 pounds of bumps and blubber will miraculously melt away every year! This will occur regardless of other dietary adaptations you make, or exercise programs you undertake. That single small, but vital step, will lighten your load significantly.

In fact, the benefit of ditching soda cans may be even more pronounced, as many servings these days come in humongous 20 ounce or even frightful 42 ounce containers. This translates into between 10 teaspoons and a massive 35 teaspoons of sugar guzzled down in a matter of minutes. Multiply that by 365 days per year, and you are looking at more than 250 cups of sugar! That is one scary statistic!

The worst aspect of soda sluicing is that it happens so mindlessly within a few seconds. There is no chewing and no satiating bulk. It is pure sugar swallowed without even a moment’s thought. Many kids grow up on this stuff. They are never taught about the ingredients and their possible detrimental effects on their health and weight management efforts. Parents set the example by opting for these sugar seductions at every opportunity.

These chemically laden beverages also have the potential to rob a robust body of its health-giving nutrients. In addition, the caffeine and sugar are likely to contribute to a sluggish digestive system. But wait, there’s more, as they say in infomercials…

Any soda pop creates a highly acidic environment in the body, which can become a breeding ground for all kinds of nasty ailments. A daily soda habit throws the body’s PH levels, so vital for wellbeing, completely out of whack. Soda sipping is also lethal to your teeth’s enamel and may lead to cavities.

Replacing sugar-laden sodas with diet soda are not the ultimate weight loss solution either. There are heated debates about the long-term health repercussions of downing large amounts of sugar replacement products. One of the safest artificial sweeteners seems to be products containing a substance called xylitol. Opt for this if possible, but limit your intake.

Don’t just attempt to drop the soda habit. A habit change is far more sustainable if you can replace it with a workable healthy alternative. Here are some ideas you can incorporate into your diet and nutrition plan:

Ultimate Weight Loss Solution Beverage Tips

1. Water: How about starting off with a far out idea. Have you ever thought about drinking plain old water when you are thirsty? If you taste water only when you brush your teeth, your body is in serious jeopardy. There is a real possibility that you are dehydrated. This affects every aspect of your body’s functioning. Drinking water truly is the ultimate weight loss solution tip. It is filling, calorie-free and provide the lubrication your body needs for optimal functioning.

By replacing soda with water, you will rehydrate your body, cut out sugar, probably even cut down on dental bills, and preserve nutrients. It is easy to add a touch of lemon for extra taste. If you need to, invest in quality water filter purification equipment to ensure better tasting and safer water.

2. Juicing For Health: Another ultimate weight loss solution tip is to invest in a quality vegetable juicer such as a centrifugal juice extractor or a masticating juicer. Your family will soon enjoy juicing to drop extra pounds, and to increase health and general wellbeing.

Fresh vegetable juice is nature’s intravenous feeding - and that without the ouch of a needle stick. Your family will relish the nutrient-rich juice. Their bodies will assimilate all the vitamins, minerals and enzymes immediately and with great ease, as fresh juice is in a sense predigested food.

Even the kids will join in with enthusiasm. They love the colorful juicing concoctions and will come up with all sorts of (often fairly disgusting!) names for the cocktails. Vegetable juice acts as a natural appetite suppressant, comes at a low calorie cost and is fat free.

Another substantial benefit is that vegetable juice helps to restore the PH of your body, rectifying the high acidity levels.

3. Herbal Tea: Experiment with fragrant, fresh, healthy caffeine free herbal teas.

4. Iced Tea: A variety of delicious flavored sugar-free iced teas are on the market these days. Be adventurous and give them a try. Just remember that canned iced tea may also damage your teeth’s enamel. Always read labels to ensure that you know what your are purchasing.

Don’t just look for another weight loss pill to pop or the next weight loss cure. Experiment with a common-sense health and nutrition approach. Make a commitment to kick the soda sugar habit for good. Your body will love you for it, and you will soon see the gratifying results in the mirror. Add juicing to your ultimate weight loss solution tips and thrive!

A Synergistic Approach for Natural Weight Loss Success

Posted on 05. Apr, 2009 by admin.

George Best asked:

While it is tempting to believe that a magic pill or potion is all that you need to achieve natural weight loss, the hard truth is that losing weight is just not that simple in most cases. For the vast majority of people, a combination of exercise, changes in eating habits, and perhaps the use of appropriate natural weight loss aids will be needed in order to lose weight long-term.

There are many natural weight loss products available and additional ones come out all the time. Each promises to be nearly miraculous in it’s effects and people buy the latest and greatest weight loss aid with eager anticipation, hoping that it will finally be the answer to their weight problems. They want to believe that a pill, or a patch, or a tea, etc.. will be all they need to lose weight and that diet and exercise won’t be necessary (because dieting and exercising are difficult). Even though deep down they probably know that the latest weight loss miracle being hyped is no better than all the things they’ve tried before, they want to believe it will work, and so they buy it, only to be disappointed again.

Now this is not to say that natural weight loss aids are all completely worthless. The truth is, a lot of weight loss aids actually have the effects that their prooters claim. For example, hoodia gordonii (at least the real stuff) does seem to be a very effective appetite suppressant. So, if the main reason that you have trouble losing weight is because you have out of control hunger that makes you eat excssively, hoodia may be a big help. The problem is that most people are not overeating out of actual hunger. They may eat out of boredom, out of habit, out of a need to satisfy a craving, or out of a need to soothe some emotional issue they are dealing with, but they don’t eat out of hunger. Hoodia is not going to help you if you aren’t eating out of hunger.

Other natural weight loss aids may work by increasing the metabolic effects of diet and exercise. It kind of stands to reason that if you fail to incorporate diet and exercise the effects of these products will be pretty minor.

Some natural weight loss aids block the absorption of fat by the digestive tract and thereby lower the calories you absorb from each meal. While this does tend to help with weight loss, unless you stop eating everything except fat (which is not a good idea), you still are taking in other calories that, in excess, will be converted to fat AFTER they are absorbed from the digestive tract. For optimum results, again we see that a good eating plan and exercise are necessary.

At this point, you may have guessed that one of the primary points I am trying to make is that lsting natural weight loss, absolutely requires a healthy eating plan and regular exercise. No weight loss aid, natural or otherwise will by itself make you lose weight and keep it off. In fact, the ads for weight loss aids will usually state this very thing, even though it is in microscopic print at the bottom of the ad.

What it comes down to is that natural weight loss is built on a foundation of sensible diet and exercise. With a good diet and exercise program in place, you may get additional benefits from using one or more of the natural weight loss products on the market. But do your research to find a product that serves your particular needs. In other words, if you’re not overeating out of hunger, don’t buy an appetite suppressant. If you’re already minimizing your fat intake, don’t waste your money on a fat blocker.

Now, once you have your weight loss plan in place with your diet, exercise program, and whatever natural weight loss aids you choose to use, there’s one little thing that needs to happen for you to successfully lose weight. You have to stick to the program! If there’s one thing that renders the vast majority of natural weight loss efforts ineffective, it’s a lack of follow-through.

It has been my experience that very few people stick to a natural weight loss program consistently for more than two weeks at a time. Of course, some people may intermittently follow a weight loss program for months or years, but they get sidetracked over and over again and really are not consistent for more than one or two weeks in a row, so they never get any momentum and achieve their goals.

A new study that tested the relative effectiveness of several popular diet plans revealed a fascinating finding. The overall success rates of most of the currently popular diet programs were about the same. The success or failure of any given diet had little to do with what the approach was. In other words, low carb, low fat, calorie restriction, eating for blood type, etc., really didn’t matter. The thing that actually mattered was if the person consistently followed the program! To sum it up, it doesn’t matter so much what you do to lose weight (within reason), as much as it matters that you do it consistenty long-term!

To be able to stick to your natural weight loss program, it is critical that you take charge of your thoughts and emotions. A lot of different ways exist to get control over your own mind, and different ways have varying degrees of effectiveness from one person to the next. You can get a lot of help in this area with products from Anthony Robbins, Dr. Phil, and others, as well as through technologies like hypnosis, the Sedona Method and Emotional Freedom Technique. You may need to try several methods to find what works well for you.

Regardless of the approach you use, the true key to effective natural weight loss really has very little relationship to the hottest weight loss aid on the market, or the most recent diet book being promoted. The real secret is to choose a reasonable approach that includes diet, exercise (choose an exercise you are physically capable of doing - starting with advanced kickboxing if you’ve been a couch potato your whole life is not going to work!), and possibly one or more weight loss aids and then make that program a part of your daily life forever. And the way to make that happen is to take control of your mind and get your brain working with you rather than against you. Good luck!

Are You Using the Weight Loss Secret That Personal Trainers Use All the Time

Posted on 04. Apr, 2009 by admin.

The Diet Guy asked:

Whether you like him or not, you have to respect Dr Phil just because of one thing.

He continually asks his guests one simple question: “How’s it working for you?”

Success in anything comes from FINDING WHAT WORKS then DOING WHAT WORKS.

I am going to reveal to you the Secret Weight Loss Formula that Celebrity personal trainer don’t want you to know about.

Before I reveal the secret, first I need to explain to you that there is process that your body goes through to burn body fat.

So how does your body burn fat?

It is a 2 steps process and in order you need to:

1.    Release the fat from the fat cells and only then

2.    You can burn the fat

That process is the same for every human being. I will outline the steps and then show you how you can easily apply some fundamental rules to allow your body to burn the maximum amount of fat with less effort and minimum time. Once you understand that simple process, you can easily see why you are not getting the results that you want. Even bigger, you will finally see that getting that dream body is getting so much closer to reality that you will be extremely motivated to get started as soon as you can.

How does your body release the fat from the cells?

Before you can turn your body into a fat burning machine, here what needs to happen: your body fat need to be released from the fat cells. You can accomplish this step successfully with your nutrition program. Here are some specific tips that you can apply right away to achieve that.

1.    Eat 4-6 small, frequent meals and never skip meals.

2.    Include small amounts of good fats.

3.    Eat natural foods; avoid processed & refined foods

4.    Eat lean proteins with each meal.

5.    Eat more complex carbs, fruits & vegetables.

The most misunderstood weight loss strategy. How to burn the *fat* instead of burning muscles.

Releasing fat from the fat cells is not the end of it; actually, it is just the beginning. Because the fat needs to be transported from the fat cells to your muscles so it can be burned there. This is done through your blood and the cardiovascular system is responsible for that. The more effective is that system, the more effective your body will become at burning fat. You can improve your cardio vascular system by doing so cardio training.  However, don’t go out yet and spend 1 hour on the treadmill because you probably not going to be doing too much good like that.

The reason is excessive cardio combined with a restrictive diet burns fat but mostly muscle tissue. That is not a good thing at all, because muscle tissue is where you burn the fat and if you are burning away muscle tissue, you are burning your ability to burn more fat in the future (weight loss plateau). You just don’t cut the hand that feed you. So cardio burns fat and it can also burn muscle tissue, this is a huge dilemma. Damn if you do, damn if you don’t. But wait there is a solution to that…

You need to do some MODERATE cardio training. The key word here is moderate.

Doing too much cardio can be detrimental and I am sure you have seen those people that are doing cardio on a daily basis and still not getting anywhere. The result is a low metabolism. Low metabolism means, your body fat is not going anywhere, anytime

soon. Here is what you need to do:

1.    Do some moderate cardio training; the key word here is moderate

2.    Never diet but consume little fewer calories that you will burn (No starvation diets, Please…)

The world most efficient “fat burner” is FREE and You already have it.

Before I reveal to you how personal trainer get those celebrities in the best shape of their life in such short period there is one more thing that I want you to understand. Because it is very important.

Weight loss marketers always claim that they have the magic “fat burner” that will melt your fat away. The problem is that they have a new one coming out every year, so I wonder if the one from last year was so effective, why we need a new one. There is only one thing that actually burn body fat is you already have it. It does not come in a bottle or a special recipe. Body fat can only be burned inside of your muscle tissue. I repeat Body fat can only be burn in your muscle tissue. This is the most important concept for you to grasp.

Your muscle tissue is your best friend when it comes to burn body fat. You need to preserve muscle tissues in order to keep losing weight. Most people go on a starvation diet combined a lot of cardio to lose weight. At first it may seems like this is working because they are losing scale weight. Now think about, scale weight does not tell you if weight loss is from fat, water or muscle tissue. Scale weight by itself is not a good indicator of success.

Losing water is only temporary,

Losing muscle will simply lower your metabolism and put you in the Yo-Yo dieting bandwagon. This should be avoided at all cost.

Losing fat while maintaining muscle mass is what your main goal should be.

To maintain muscle tissues you need to:

1.    Do some resistance training. (This is not optional, it is mandatory)

The secret

Now that you understand the whole fat burning process, I am going to reveal to you how celebrity personal trainers do to get those amazing transformations. The strategy is to combine all the steps that I outlined so the body works as a unit.  First the trainer makes sure that his client is eating the proper food on a regular basis.

By that I mean eating so that fat WILL be released from the fat cells. Then and only then they exercise the body to burn the fat. The important idea to take from this is:

“The fat can ONLY be burned after it is released from the fat cells”.

If you know anybody that has been exercising like a maniac and they don’t seem to go anywhere, now you know why.

The reverse is also true, Do you know somebody that is eating properly but they are not including cardio AND resistance training. Now you know why their body  still look the same.

All you need to do is to combine a nutrition program, along with some MODERATE cardio program and maintain muscle mass with resistance training. Everything is combined with one goal in mind: Turning your body into an Automatic fat burning machine. It is that easy.

Don’t like the results you have been getting?  Then CHANGE YOUR STRATEGY.

How do you change your strategy? How do you find one that works?

DO NOT continue doing something just because “THEY” say it’s the way things should be done. Allow yourself to choose the solution that will work for you, regardless of what it may be. The only way for you to know who is right is to measure your progress and ACTUALLY track your results.

CHANGE IS HARD, but it’s also worth it. Not getting results makes change EXTREMELY HARD.

Get support from friends, family or a coach. Losing weight is not as hard at it seems once you know what to do. Stop now and sign up to my Forbidden Weight loss Secrets blog at http://www.charlesblain.com because you will receive weight loss secrets that you will not get anywhere else. The result will be that body that you’ve always wanted.

What You Can Learn From Dr. Phil About Writing Non-Fiction Books

Posted on 02. Apr, 2009 by admin.

0

Sophfronia Scott asked:

Even if your career doesn’t involve being a full-time writer, being the author of a book can be a huge boon for you. Our society holds authors in such high regard that anyone who has written one is seen as knowledgeable, self-disciplined and special. A book can help your business or career by making you more visible and sought-after for your expertise. All very good things. But if your natural talents don’t involve writing regularly, it may be difficult for you to figure out how to organize your expertise into an engaging book. Luckily, there are tricks that make it far easier to write non-fiction than fiction. Here’s how to get started. I’ll use Dr. Phil McGraw and his successful line of books as my example.

It’s Not About You

Okay, it’s easy to forget that writing a non-fiction book is not about you. After all, most likely, your picture is going to go on the cover! But let’s face it: people are not going to buy your book just because of you. People don’t buy Dr. Phil’s books because they’re so excited to hear what he has to say. No. They are buying it because he’s going to help them solve a problem like losing weight, strengthening a family or salvaging a marriage. Where do you come in? People will be attracted to your overall message and how it makes them feel. Dr. Phil’s message is to make you take charge and “get excited about your life”. That’s what’s going help you lose weight, strengthen your family or salvage your marriage. Note that the message is simple, clear–and not about Dr. Phil. What is your message? Make sure you connect it to others and don’t overthink it. Most likely it’s something you already radiate in your words and your being and you don’t even know it!

What Aspect of Your Expertise Do People Want Most?

What do people come to you for? Are you a mortgage broker, but you find most people come to you with questions about their credit? Are you a family therapist and you observe that most of your patients don’t know how to talk to each other? Are you a house painter and most of your customers don’t know how to choose colors for their home? Wherever you see such a void, there is room for a book on that topic. You have to figure out what people want to know. Notice I use the word “want”, and NOT “need”. People rarely buy what they need, no matter how good it is for them.

That’s a trap many new writers fall into. They write with a sense of duty, thinking “people really need to know this”, like they need to know what being overweight can do to a body in the long term–and that’s probably true. But readers would rather buy a diet book that will tell them how to solve the overweight problem as quickly and easily as possible. Dr. Phil’s The Ultimate Weight Solution is a book about doing the real work of exercising and correcting inner problems to solve weight issues–Dr. Phil has said he didn’t want it to be a book about telling people what to eat. And yet that’s what people wrote in and said they wanted most–they wanted Dr. Phil to tell them what to eat. So what did he come out with next? The Ultimate Weight Solution Food Guide and then The Ultimate Weight Solution Cookbook! You too can find out what people want by just asking. Create a survey if that’s possible for you, but the more you can find out about what your readership wants, the easier it will be for you to decide how to write it for them.

Write a Punchy Title

Once you’ve figured out what people want, you have to make it crystal clear that you’re going to give it to them. You’ll do that with the title and subtitle. It may help you write the book if you come up with your title first, because a good title will remind you of what you have promised to deliver. When you find your working straying and unfocused, you come back to the title and think, “oh yeah, I’m supposed to be telling them how to do X.” Ideally, the title should be a grabber, and the subtitle tells exactly what the reader will get. Dr. Phil’s titles do that really well. Here are a few examples: Love Smart: Find the One You Want–Fix the One You Got, and The Ultimate Weight Solution: The 7 Keys to Weight Loss Freedom and Family First: Your Step-by-Step Plan to Creating a Phenomenal Family. Note how each subtitle makes you think, “Yeah, I want that! or I want to know how to do that!”. Result: reader picks up the book!

Think Steps, Keys and Strategies

Note Dr. Phil’s use of “keys” and “steps” and “plans”. Even if you’re working with a complex subject, you want to chunk it down as much as possible and keep it simple for your readers. You want them to see that they can do X on their own just by reading your book. You will give them everything they need. Again, this tactic will also make it easier to organize all your knowledge and expertise because you know you only have to focus on one particular “how to” and the X steps it will take to handle it.

Tell Stories

This idea goes all the way back to the Bible and beyond: we learn best from stories. It helps to hear how someone else handled the same situation because we can see what is possible. As you outline your book, make a note as to what story or stories you will tell to illustrate every point you’ll be making. Tell the stories of your clients (changing names, of course, to protect their privacy) or use anecdotes from your own life experience. Dr. Phil’s Family First is peppered with his stories of growing up with his own family issues. Make sure you use the right stories. You want them to be clearly connected to your concept so there’s no mistaking your point.

And that’s it. Following these guidelines should help you create a book that not only showcases your expertise, it will also be one that’s sought-after by a market hungry for what you have to offer. All you have to do now is get started!

How to Lose Weight by not Being on a Diet!

Posted on 01. Apr, 2009 by admin.

Nathan Gurley asked:

Copyright (c) 2009 Nathan Gurley

Diets come and diets go. You lose weight and gain more back than you started with on the “diet roller coaster”. Now, the Dr. Phil of England claims he can make you thin by eating what you want, when you want it.

Is this a hoax or a revolutionary breakthrough?

Dr. Paul McKenna is an author and television host in the United Kingdom. The book and the TV series share the same name - “I Can Make You Thin”. His weight loss system is not a diet, in fact, he claims, “Diets are the enemy of weight loss!”

Can this be true? If so, what have the nutritionists been feeding us all this time?

McKenna claims that if you:

* read his book (approximately 2 hours)

* follow his instructions (4 Golden Rules)

* listen to his hypnosis CD for 2 weeks

* change your eating pattern

you will lose weight.

His 4 Golden Rules are:

1.) When you are hungry, eat

2.) eat what you want, not what you think you should 3.) eat consciously and enjoy every mouthful

4.) when you think you are full, stop eating

First, you need to make sure you are actually physically hungry and not emotionally hungry and eating for the wrong reasons.

Secondly, you should not deprive yourself of foods you really want, the so called “forbidden foods” that traditional weight loss plans have you steer clear of. It’s normal for people to want what they can’t have or what is not allowed and diets are no exception. Ultimately, most people give in to their desires and eat what they are not supposed to and usually overeat when they do.

Instead of denying yourself, you should make peace with the food and control your intake.

In Mindless Eating, Professor Brian Wansink outlines experiments he conducted showing that people eat more when they are distracted by TVs, phones, and even reading. Dr. McKenna agrees and suggests eating slowly and consciously savoring every bite.

Everyone has an inner thermostat that tells you when you are full. The trick is to learn to listen to it and push away from the table when it says you are full. He dubbed it resigning from the “Clean Plate Club”.

To support you through this process and help you change your eating patterns, it is recommended to listen to a hypnosis CD for a minimum of at least two weeks to reinforces your belief system with relaxing visualizations and affirmations.

The combination of changing both physical and emotional eating patterns has been used by millions of Brits and now, as Neil Diamond might sing, it’s Coming to America!

A New Weight Loss Science

Posted on 01. Apr, 2009 by admin.

Mark Kimathi asked:

For a long time physiology has been the lead science in combating obesity. To achieve weight loss, diets like Low Carb Diets, Glycemic Index Diet and even Very Low Calories Diets (VLCD) are designed to primarily effect physiological results. These include control of glucose assimilation and reduced calories intake.

Another major and complementing physiological effect sort after is increased weight loss expenditure. Particularly, physical activities as well as thermogenic agents that target to increase fat metabolism are used to increase calorie expenditure.

Indeed the combination of weight loss diets and exercise regimes designed for weight loss have proven to be superior that either technique alone. But with years of physiology, permanent weight loss is still elusive, many have given up along the way and for the persistent it is a yoyo journey.

Deeper insight into causes of obesity could as well be pointing to a new weight loss science to compliment physiology. As opposed to physiology which is the study of the science of life, psychology is the study of mind, behavior and attitudes. With the redefinition of obesity by World Health Orgnaisation (WHO) as a multi factorial disease; attitude, state of mind and behavioral studies have been making inroads to try and find a lasting solution for the obesity epidemic.

Studies are showing that only 60% of weight lost is maintained in one year. Even in cases of extreme intervention like weight loss surgery, you are easily back to where you came from in about five years.

The most promising solution yet to long term weight loss is change in lifestyle. This then has created quite some room for psychology in dieting.

Already studies that include behavioral treatments have shown promising results. Compared to diets, exercise programs as well as diet-exercise programs, inclusion of a behavioral treatment results to improvement to any of these techniques. This has a simple explanation.

As much as weights loss involves calories reduction, weight maintenance requires a zero-calories balance. With diet and exercising techniques, introduction of negative calories balance or calories reduction has been achieved. But the zero calorie balance to maintain weight has not. This is because particular lifestyle habits need to be changed.

If one is going to go into a weight loss program, lose some weight, then go right back to the same lifestyle that got them overweight in the first place; it doesnot require a lot of imagination to project that it is just a matter of time before they are back to where they started.

Enter a new problem, how do we effect change of lifestyle?

A lifestyle is a collection of habits. Habits are based on frequent practice of particular decisions. The science of decisions, habits and behaviors is a challenge way off the abilities of physiology, the science of life system.

Already weight loss programs merging both psychological and physiological tactics are in use. One such diet would be a Dr Phil Diet by the celebrity motivational speaker Dr Phil McGraw. With the entry of psychology we look forward to tools, tactics ad techniques to help individual change their lifestyle to result to permanent weight loss.

Guys…your wife is watching your biceps getting bigger! Is she jealous? Does she want to start “bodybuilding” but is afraid of getting TOO big? She secretly wants that finely chiseled body, too!

Here’s how she can build muscle for a lean, sexy physique without the fear of embarrassing you with bigger arms as you walk down the beach…

There are a lot of myths around women and bodybuilding and they just don’t seem to die. I’d like to share with you an article that sheds light on women and weight training that will pave the path for your wife or girlfriend to adopt the bodybuilding lifestyle with you.

That’s right. We’re going to bust the women and weight training myths right NOW!

Who better to do that than a woman who weight trains and understands your wife’s fears regarding women and weights?

Women and Weight Training Myth #1 - Weight training will make woman huge and manly.

BUSTED - Like most people, when you think of women and weight training you automatically relate that image to the professional female bodybuilder strutting her oiled-up mammoth physique across stage and striking a pose.

What’s NOT mentioned is that 99.9% of the professional female bodybuilders supplement with steroids to develop superhuman muscles.

By the law of nature, women do not produce near the amount of muscle building hormone, testosterone, necessary to build huge swollen, vein-popping muscles. A woman is just not capable of building that type of massive muscle simply by lifting weights.

Bottom line: Weight training will NOT make a woman big and overly muscular.

Women and Weight Training Myth #2 - Women who weight train will lose their breast size.

BUSTED - (pardon the pun) Breast tissue is made up of primarily fat tissue. A loss of body fat will results in smaller breast size.

Weight training develops muscle tissue. Adding strength training will develop the underlying chest muscle on a woman and can add more shape to her upper body, creating those eye-pleasing and sexy curves. In addition, a good chest training program will add stunning high cleavage for that perfect fit in a dress or bikini.

To put it bluntly, the only way for a woman to lose her breast size is if she loses a lot of body fat.

Women and Weight Training Myth #3 - A woman’s muscle will turn into fat if she stops weight training.

BUSTED - There is an astronomical amount of women who won’t weight train for fear their muscle will somehow magically turn into fat if they stop weight training.

Again, muscle and fat are two completely different tissues responsible for their own functions. Muscle is metabolically active (calorie burning) and fat is metabolically inactive (fat storing).

Muscle CANNOT Ever, In Any Case, turn into fat any more than fat can turn into muscle. One can only build or lose muscle OR gain or lose fat. The two separate tissues are not interchangeable.

Women and Weight Training Myth #4 - Muscle weighs more than fat.

BUSTED - It’s no wonder women believe this ridicules statement. Dr. Phil has been known to say it in his highly publicized weight-loss book.

It’s a fact that a pound of muscle and a pound of fat weigh the same, a pound. What most women don’t realize is that a pound of muscle is denser and takes up less space than a pound of fat.

Therefore, having more developed muscle on the female frame with less body fat will make her leaner, tighter, and give off that “toned” look they are after.

Bottom line: Adding natural muscle mass through weight training accentuates a lady’s femininity.

The Ultimate Weight Loss Solution - Is It For You?

J. Brian Keith asked:

The following article presents the very latest information on The Ultimate Weight Loss Solution. If you have a particular interest in Weight Loss, then this informative article is required reading.

See how much you can learn about The Ultimate Weight Loss Solution when you take a little time to read a well-researched article? Don’t miss out on the rest of this great information.

If you are a fan of TV talk show host Oprah Winfrey, you probably knew about Dr. Phil McGraw some time ago. The advice guru is a favorite of Oprah’s because of his uncanny ability to “tell it like it is.” Dr. Phil has used the same no-nonsense approach on his own television program and has also introduced millions to a new perspective on dieting with his ultimate weight loss solution.

Dr. Phil’s approach may not be revolutionary, but it is instructive. He preaches the gospel of healthy choices. This means understanding the emotions that cause you to overeat in the first place. He also offers tests to help you assess your own eating patterns. Once you understand how your mind works, you can begin the daunting task of changing your environment.

Dr. Phil argues that, while you may not be able to control circumstances, you can control your reaction to the difficulties that come your way. This means taking ownership of your responses and leaving little to chance. Such a stance can be quite empowering and can give you the confidence you need to succeed at weight loss.

Another aspect of Dr. Phil’s plan is to resolve to quit complaining. You need to realize that your situation will never get better if you simply complain about it. Rather, you need to take decisive action. You also have to realize that you can have an impact on your own weight—that your weight problems are not the other guy’s fault.

Your primary task is to rid your own personal world of the temptations that cause you to binge. After that, you need to devote your attention to nutritional concerns. Dr. Phil also believes in establishing a healthy system of exercise that can help you lose weight over the long term.

Dr. Phil also believes that it is important for you to establish a support network that will enable you to reach your weight loss goals. The importance of support cannot be overemphasized. It is difficult to accomplish anything in life without someone in your corner, cheering you on. The same is certainly true when it comes to weight reduction. You’ll want a partner, someone you can turn to when the desire to overeat becomes overwhelming.

An interesting part of Dr. Phil’s plan is the self-assessment. During his practice, Dr. Phil has found that some individuals sabotage their own diet success. They may actually feel uncomfortable about losing weight; therefore, they lose weight only to gain it back again. They may not be comfortable with the compliments they get from the opposite sex when they lose weight, so they hold onto their weight as a buffer against the outside world. As a result, Dr. Phil recommends that individuals slow down and take stock of themselves before going onto a weight loss program. During this slow-down period, they may identify those behaviors that keep them from having weight loss success.

Dr. Phil also recommends conducting a reality check from time to time. Challenge your own beliefs and pre-conceived ideas. See if they stand up to scrutiny. If not, it may be time to change your perspective about life in general and about weight loss in particular. Dr. Phil also suggests that you seek closure for the emotional issues in your life. This might mean attacking your own anger, or forgiving someone who has hurt you. With this closure, you can ready yourself to handle the challenge of losing weight.

Supporters of Dr. Phil’s plan say that it is a common sense approach to weight loss. They applaud Dr. Phil for tackling the emotional issues surrounding weight gain. However, critics contend that there is nothing new or all that interesting in Dr. Phil’s approach, that it covers ground that has been covered time and time again. In the end, you’ll probably have to do your own research to determine if Dr. Phil’s approach will work for you, or if another method would be better. The one positive aspect of Dr. Phil’s prescription is that it is unlikely to harm you, and could actually do you a world of good.

Take time to consider the points presented above. What you learn may help you overcome your hesitation to take action.
